Recommended Locations - My favorite places are Wakodahatchee Wetlands - Delray Beach, Green Cay Nature Center - Delray Beach, Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge - Delray Beach, Butterfly World - Coconut Creek, and South Inlet Park - Boca Raton. These are all park like settings that are clean and easy to visit. Recommended Florida Wildlife Books - Friends and loved ones have given me numerous books and ID cards on Florida Wildlife. Of these, my favorites are;

The National Audubon Society Field Guide to Florida, available from Amazon.com for about $14.00. This field book covers the full range of Florida Flora and Fauna from plants and animals to fish and birds. And the pictures are a good match to reality.
The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America, available from Amazon.com for about $14.00. This is the definitive field ID book for birds. Illustrated with full color artists sketches, it shows both male and female versions of the birds as well as what they look like at different times of the year.
The National Geographic Complete Birds of North America, available from Amazon.com for about $25.00. This massive, 681 page, beautifully illustrated, oversized book, has all of the birds in all of their colors and seasons and tells about their habits in addition to how-to ID them. A simply wonderful book and a great gift for yourself or a bird -lover friend.

Alligator Trivia - Did you know that alligators feed at night and have eyesight as good as owls? That they can lunge 5 feet above the surface of the water and run 30 miles per hour on land? Stalking Birds - The classical wisdom is to approach birds slowly and quietly while avoiding direct eye contact. Talking quietly to the birds or making a soothing sound toward establishing a relationship is also recommended. Click here for my thoughts on stalking birds.
