We got a Sears Kenmore HE2 Washer and HE2 Plus Dryer for about $800 each. Great units and Great Consumer Reports ratings.

But they are full sized units and the folding doors needed to be removed to accommodate them. For me this is not a problem as the doors would just get in the way anyway.

The only "gotcha" for me was there is an outlet for a dryer or a combo washer/dryer but if you have a stacked washer dryer, there is no separate outlet for the washer. Right now we are using a short, heavy duty extension cord.
